1. 미국은 대한민국과 선린우방이라고 입으로는 말하면서 CIA 인터넷지도에 는 독도(Dokdo)를 Liancrut Rocks로, 동해(East Sea)를 일본해(Sea of
Japan)로 잘못 표기해 놓고 있습니다.
2. 이러한 미국의 오만과 편견을 바로잡는 운동을 펼치고자 합니다.

Today, I would like to bring your attention to my request for immediate correction of two errors in the map carried on your official Web site.
Looking at the Geography page in the World Factbook 2002, I was dismayed to find that your information concerning the map was outdated and politically insensitive. I do not understand how your agency puts such misleading information on public display, with two obvious geographical errors in the names of island and sea.
First, the eastern-most island Liancourt Rocks in the map of the Korean Peninsula should be changed to Dokdo. The name Liancourt dates back to 1854 when it was haphazardly named by French aboard a whaling vessel operating in the nearby area, who at the time did not know the name of the island.
I do hope you understand Korea has a long history stretching back to thousands of years ago and its places deserve to be marked in maps with their proper names.
Currently, over 40 Korean people live in Dokdo, therefore it is no longer a nameless rocky outcrop or a French-named island. Please kindly refer to other international maps for more information. It is impolite to the Korean people to commit such a blunder as you do not address your friends as wrong names.
Second, the Sea of Japan should be changed to the East Sea.
Korea has used the name East Sea since long time ago, and appealed many atlas publishing companies and authorities in the world to use the East Sea in place of the Sea of Japan.
Last year, the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) almost decided to revise Limits of Oceans and Seas, a definitive global publication on oceanography, in favor of Korea. But the IHO postponed the announcement due to the opposition by Japan.
Nevertheless, a few atlas companies advised that they will put the East Sea in updated publications as a comprise plan as the final decision is due later on.
For example, Graphic Maps, worldatlas.com, which provides atlases to education and government agencies all around the world, as well as Internet portal sites and graphics programs, made the decision to use East Sea in support of a massive campaign by the Voluntary Agency Network of Korea (VANK), a cyber coalition of about 10,000 Korean students.
We Korean people do not agree with your use of Sea of Japan in the map, which is historically and politically insensitive. Please kindly correct the errors so that such trivial errors will not hurt friendly relations between Koreans and Americans.

Today, I would like to invite your deep interest in my asking for the immediate correction of Korean map on your site.
Looking at the Geography page in the World Factbook 2002, I noticed your information concerning the Korean map was pretty out of date. I can not locate where you picked that up, but there are Two Important Errors with the expression of the names of island and sea.
First, the eastern end island Liancourt Rocks should be corrected to Dok-do.
The name Liancourt is as old as 150 years, which was put by a French whaling vessel in 1854 without knowing the Korean name of the island. I do hope you may know Korea has been an independent country for some thousands years, and is much deserved to be called with its real names. Besides, over 40 Korean people are living there, thus it is no longer a nameless rock or a French named island. Please kindly refer to other international maps or information. It should be a matter of impoliteness onto the Korean people to commit such a clumsy mistake.
Second, the Sea of Japan shall be written East Sea.
Korea has used the name East Sea since quite long time ago, and appealed many atlas publishing companies and authorities in the world to put the East Sea instead of the Sea of Japan. Last year sometime, the concerned international authority almost decided to do so, but postponed the announcement due to the opposition by Japan. Nevertheless, a few atlas companies advised that they will put the East Sea (Sea of Japan) in coming publications as a comprise plan until the final decision comes out later on. Anyhow, we Korean people do not agree the expression Sea of Japan alone, which should provoke the national feeling against Japan, as well as anyone who use that expression. Please kindly consider how both Korean and USA people can friendly go along each other by not hurting the good will of other party.
